Maples State Natural Area - Lost Maples State Natural Area
covers 2174.2 scenic acres in Bandera and Real Counties, north of
Vanderpool on the Sabinal River. Acquired by purchase from private
owners in 1973 -1974, the site was opened to the public on September
1, 1979. The annual visitation is approximately 200,000 visitors.

Sunset
Bat Flights - The Frio Bat Cave south of Concan, TX. houses
the 2nd Largest Mexican Free-tailed Bat population in Texas. There
are 2000 feet of caves, with an estimated 10 million bats. This
is a maternity cave, with pups being born in June or July. By mid
August the pups are flying out with their mothers. The interpretive
tour guide will share his knowledge about bats and the history of
the cave dating back to the Civil War. You can watch as hawks and
falcons catch bats for their evening meal. The Sunset Bat Flight
is an awesome sight you will want to see again & again! Each
